LIFE, ILLUSTRATED: Vacation's Over
Waaay over
“Vacation’s over”, I said to myself as we returned home to Winnipeg, Canada, from our trip the Canadian Rockies, “time to get to work!” I was fired up at the prospect of starting a new project - the publication that you’re currently reading—and I would do so post haste!
Well, that was over a year ago.
So I guess life got in the way somewhat. In my defence, I have a full time job, two young kids, two fur-kids (of the dog variety), and a hundred-year-old house that needs regular attention. I also needed some time to work out exactly what this thing is… so, what is it?
An interjection from the 2026 iteration of me: I’ll answer that question right away, but I should first point out that our lives changed pretty radically in the time since I wrote this post. Still have a full time job, two young kids, and two dogs, but we now live in a ninety-year-old house (that, again, needs regular attention). Oh, and more importantly, I guess I should mention that this house just so happens to be the house I grew up in… and it’s in the UK. So, yes, we no longer live in Canada. My wife, Becky, and I packed up our lives and moved back here in 2024. It’s been quite an adventure, and you can read some of my reflections on the move here. But for now, back to the post…
THE PICTURE CHRONICLE is essentially an outlet for my photography, comics, and single-panel cartoons, as well as my reflections on life, and creativity etc. I also have a more long-term comic project—entitled Super Scrupulous—that I’ve developed over the years, and I thought this could be a good home for that as well. You can think of that as a comicky cacophony of constant caped-correctness, if that helps?
Oh, and I’m a fan of old movies—or motion pictures as they were once called—and I thought I might do some occasional reviews of ones I’ve watched here too. Because—why not milk the term “picture” for all it’s worth, hey?
So here I go with this thing!
Better late than never.
You can join me by subscribing to THE PICTURE CHRONICLE, which you can do so below (and please feel free to share it with anyone else you think might like it). Subscribing to this newsletter is a great way to support my creative endeavours, and is hugely appreciated. Should be lots of fun too!
Thank you so much.
